This is a free event!

This outing is part of a series of hikes offered weekly throughout the year. We are a consistent outdoor adventure group who hikes every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning since February 2003.
In addition to local outings, please join us on our incredible adventure trips, domestic and international.
Regardless of your hiking level or ability, you are invited to join us in our stunning, outdoor playground known as the Wasatch Mountains and beyond.
Go fast, go slow, go longer, go shorter. The important thing is to GO! We hike a new trail often and meet new people often, which makes every outing exciting!
Even though our hikes may vary in trails, canyons, terrain, etc., they are all very similar. Become familiar with our guidelines by clicking on the links below.

8 AM - Start gathering, greet hikers, arrange carpools as needed, announcements, final instructions, etc.
8:30 AM - Drive to the trailhead (within a 30 minute driving time)
9 AM - Start hiking
12 Noon - Off the trail (enjoy a shorter hike, if you prefer)

Equipment or Gear

Water - 2 liters is generally plenty for our outings, however, 1 liter or 1 quart per hour of hiking is recommended
Snack i.e. granola bar, trail mix, nuts
Sun protection i.e. sunscreen, lip balm
Warm hat
Light jacket for wind protection, cooler temperatures
Base layer for a top.
Long underwear if temperatures dictate
Water proof pants for stormy days.
Warm coat for colder days
Avoid wearing cotton clothing anytime since it doesn’t wick.
First Aid Kit - (basic supplies i.e. bandaids, aspirin, Neosporin, moist towelettes, etc.)
Cell phone - service may be spotty in the canyons
Flashlight - Most of our hikes are in the morning but it is always a good item to have.
Water proof rain coat.
Kahtoola Micro Spikes (or equivalent). Used for hiking on ice/snow packed trails. In the past we have used spikes 80% of the time and snowshoes 20%.
Snowshoes (generally are used right after a significant snowfall.) Within 4 - 5 days after a snowstorm many of the trails are packed down so spikes are used more.
When hiking in deeper power snowshoes are definitely needed.

I rent MSR Snowshoes (I own 15 pair). Cost: $10/pair. Text me no later than the night before to reserve a pair. Pay me at the meeting place or on VENMO.
I sell Micro Spikes. Cost: $50/pair. Reg. $75.
I don’t have any snowshoes for sale.
Plan to carry the spikes in your backpack while hiking. You may not need them at the beginning of the hike but at some point you will generally need them.

8:00 AM
Start gathering

There is a 30 minute window for hikers to arrive. Join us for a short pre-hike meeting as we greet everyone, introduce new hikers, go over final instructions, address any concerns, arrange carpools, and announce upcoming events.

8:30 AM
Drive to trailhead

Hikers are encouraged to gather at our meeting place, not the trailhead in case there is a last minute change of plans. If you need to meet us at the trailhead, text me by 8 AM so you'll be informed if there has been a change.

9:00 AM
Arrive at trailhead, start hiking

The trailhead is generally within 10 - 30 minutes from our 6200 South meeting place UNLESS otherwise stated.  Generally there is limited parking at the trailheads so carpool as much as possible. Some trailheads have a bathroom, many do not. If you would like to do a shorter hike, let me know before we leave the meeting place since others may want to join you. This happens very often so tell me and I'll help you find some compatible hiking buddies!

12:00 PM
Off the trail

Off the trail between 11:30 AM - 12 noon, depending on the hike. If it is an Out and Back trail, we generally turn around to head back down the mountain by 10:30 AM. There is always a variety of hikers moving at different speeds which is exactly what we want. Come often and get to know fellow hikers with similar abilities.
