This is part of a series of day hikes offered year round. You'll discover that we are a very consistent group, hiking every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday morning.

I launched this group in February 2003 and had so much fun I forgot to stop. Kind, caring, friendly hikers will welcome you to our group when you arrive.

Regardless of your hiking ability, you are invited to join us in our beautiful outdoor playground known as the Wasatch Mountains and way beyond.

We hike a wide variety of trails year round. New hikers join often. You'll meet our core members as you come often.

Besides local hikes, you are invited on our many adventure trips, domestic and international.

Specific details for local hikes are not posted online. Come to the meeting place and help me get better acquainted with you and your needs before we actually start hiking. Receive more info about the hike. If there is anything unusual about the hike it will be listed as a FEATURED HIKE.

Even though our hikes vary in trails, canyons, scenery and terrain, the format and guidelines are the same. Become more familiar with us from the links below.

Equipment or Gear
  • Water: 1 - 2 liters is generally plenty for our outings. 1 liter or 1 quart per hour of hiking is recommended
  • Snack i.e. granola bar, trail mix, nuts
  • Sun protection i.e. sunscreen, lip balm
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Light jacket
  • Warmer jacket for cooler mornings
  • Waterproof raincoat
  • First Aid Kit - (It's a good habit to carry basic supplies i.e. band-aids, aspirin, Neosporin, moist towelettes, etc.)
  • Cell phone - service may be spotty in the canyons
  • Camera
  • Flashlight - Most hikes are in the morning but it's a good item to always bring
  • Kahtoola Micro Spikes (or equivalent). In May and June we still find ice/snow on many trails in high elevations. Plan to carry spikes in your backpack while hiking. Need a pair of spikes? I rent and sell new spikes. Contact me in advance. $10/rental/outing or $50/pair/purchase.

Need help in finding quality hiking clothing and/or gear on a budget?
Contact The Gear Room, tell them Sheryl sent you. This quality outdoor sports consignment shop is located a few miles west of the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon: 2258 Fort Union Blvd, Cottonwood Heights. (801) 448-3037.

Also ask my assistants or myself for advice/tips regarding gear and clothing.

NOTE: When carpooling with someone, get your driver’s cell phone number in case you get separated. Even if you don't ride back in the same car, let them know. Take my cell phone number and also one of my assistants phone numbers in case you ever need help. My cell: 801-278-5313. Also as a courtesy, pay your carpool driver a few dollars.
