From boiling mud pools, spurting geysers, glaciers, and waterfalls I have come to love this incredible country! One eighth of Iceland is home to the largest National Park in Europe. Iceland is all about ice and fire, hot and cold. To me, it is romantic, magical, spiritual and unbelievable.

Description

It’s difficult to describe in words and nearly impossible to capture it’s entire presence in a photo. Besides meeting the locals, I've found Iceland to be the best place to meet and talk with people from all over the world. Iceland is clean, safe, friendly and many people speak English. With many Scandinavian ancestors from Denmark, I have developed a true passion for this land. I'm eager to help others experience the same feelings.

Day 1

Fly to Keflavik, Iceland. (Departing from SLC at 1:45 PM)

Day 2

You'll arrive in Keflavik approx. 6:45 AM. After a delicious breakfast we'll spend the morning exploring the beautiful city of Reykjavik on bike and/or on foot. Reykjavik is rich in history and has so much to offer! The harbor, boats of all sizes, modern buildings and museums, shops, restaurants, etc. For those who will join me on a bike ride we'll ride along the boardwalk next to the ocean to an historic Lighthouse. If you choose to walk that will work as well.

After lunch, sight seeing, exploring, bike riding, walking, etc. we'll help you relax before going to bed on this first incredible night in Iceland.

This will become a daily ritual that is one of the things that makes Iceland so completely amazing! Outdoor geothermal pools, complete with steam rooms, saunas, hot salt water pools, water slides and warm swimming pools. This truly has become one of the highlights of each day! (B, L, D) Iceland is extremely rich in geothermal activity and they know how to harness all of this energy!!

Day 3

While the city is still quiet, join me for an early morning sunrise walk near the harbor and downtown Reykjavik. It's stunning before everyone is awake! After breakfast, we’ll pack up and head northeast to spend the day exploring and hiking 1) inside a crater 2) Gullfoss, the largest waterfall in Iceland 3) unique geysers that explode high into the air and 4) check out the amazing mid-atlantic ridge! By evening we'll come home to a delicious dinner and lodging in the southern region away from the city lights. Our nearest town is Selfoss, much smaller than Reykjavik. Plan on relaxing under the stars in another geothermal pool. (B, L, D)

Day 4

After breakfast, we'll spend the morning hiking to many stunning waterfalls as we drive south along the coast toward Selfoss and Skogar. For those who would rather enjoy museums and local history rather than hiking, you'll have this option. On this morning your two choices will either be 1) exploring a fascinating geothermal farming town with its many geothermal greenhouses, geothermal bakery, shops and hot pots or 2) hiking on a moderate 6 mile RT trail leading to several geothermal hot pots along the way. At the end of the 3 mile trail your reward is soaking in a natural hot springs pool on the mountain before heading back down. Hikers may pack a swim suit and towel on this hike. This trail continues for another mile or two past the hot springs so keep hiking longer if you prefer to skip the geothermal pools and hot springs. Each night we spend some time outside looking up into the heavens for a sign of the Northern Lights and brilliant stars. Another geothermal pool opportunity awaits you in the evening after dinner in another small town in Iceland. (B, L, D)

Day 5

After breakfast, I'll treat you to a featured hike with several spectacular waterfalls along the trail! During the trip there will be some waterfalls we stand in awe of at the bottom. Some we walk 350 stairs to start hiking at the top of. Some waterfalls we walk behind or stand inside of a larger slot canyon while the water is coming down. On this hike today, you'll pass 25 breath-taking waterfalls. There will be time to explore all of the waterfalls mentioned above! Enjoy alone time if you like. Hike at a pace you feel comfortable with. Today’s hike will be 8 miles RT but you can always do a shortened version. You’ll discover a waterfall around every turn. Everyone has options to hike, explore and experience this scenery the way they would like to. In addition, Iceland has over 30 museums to study and learn from including the Skogar Museum.

After dinner, relax your body in another amazing hot geothermal pool under the stars! (B, L, D)

Day 6

After breakfast, we travel just 3 miles to another scenic valley, canyon and natural outside geothermal pool surrounded by at least 25 smaller waterfalls leaking out of the mountain as you relax in a hot pool. While relaxing in the pool take a look around you to see all the beauty on the mountain. (B, L, D)

Day 7

After breakfast, we travel east to Vik then northeast to one of the most amazing scenes of large pieces of ice from a glacier now floating on the water! The Glacier Lagoon and black sand beaches with large, washed-up pieces of ice is quite a site. Walk or jog a few miles along the black sand beach if you like to see how far the ice has washed up on shore. Our picnic lunch will be on top of a 200 foot hill so we can get the best view for watching pieces of ice make a giant splash into the water. Watch for seals swimming in and around the glaciers. Get up close and personal with the floating glaciers by taking a 45 minute boat ride out into the lagoon. (optional, additional cost). Drive back to Skogar for dinner and more geothermal pools in Vik. (B, L, D)
Sep 28

Day 8

After breakfast, we'll travel to Vik, spend time climbing strange pillars located on a beautiful black sand beach and hiking with more incredible waterfalls, ocean lookout points and amazing views in all directions, located on this most southern tip of Iceland. Vik is also a fun town to explore with local art galleries and artisans selling home crafted items. On the black sand beach is a great place to watch a sunset before we have dinner. Soak in another geothermal pool at Vik. (B, L, D)
Sep 29

Day 9

After breakfast, we'll pack up and drive west toward Keflavik stopping along the way in Selfoss to purchase any last minute gifts to take home, including delicious Icelandic chocolate! Enjoy one last day of geothermal pools and some of the best gelato in Iceland! As we travel back to Keflavik, we’ll stop along the way to hike and explore a few areas we missed. After dark, we’ll drive to the most famous geothermal pool in all of Iceland, The Blue Lagoon. It is truly magical at night under the stars and it's not crowded! This is the only geothermal pool that allows you to pamper yourself with a rich mineral mud facial! (Additional cost but WELL worth it!) Blue Lagoon mud and facial products are available to purchase online or on location as well. (B, L, D)
