Sometimes walking on snow does not require a snowshoe.  If trails are snow-packed or icy, another device with traction may work much better than snowshoes.  When I created this video several years ago, the only device I knew about was something called "Yaktrax".

Since then I have discovered two other traction devices that are now my favorites!  I would rather use either one of these when walking on ice and snow-packed trails.  They are:

1)  Kahtoola Microspikes - my #1 favorite choice

2)  Stabilicers

Both of these fit on your shoe similar to the Yaktrax but with these, you'll have so much more confidence with the traction due to the incredible grip they have when walking on ice and snow-packed trails.
