Tips on how to plant
Garlic bulbs and greens are BOTH very potent. A small amount goes a long way.
Plant the bulb with the greens attached.
Leave it planted in the ground year after year
Cut and eat the GREENS right before eating.
Cut only what you will use immediately to keep it fresh.
Leave the bulb in the ground so it continues to produce more bulbs.
Bulbs continue to produce and multiply each year.
New bulbs form for years to come.
Once you plant the bulb in the ground, forget about it.
They keep growing easily and rapidly without you doing anything.
Instructions for growing garlic and garlic greens
Garlic should be planted in early spring or the fall in a sunny location with rich, well-drained soil.
Garlic pops out of the ground in early spring and fall.
Garlic thrives in cold, wet weather.
The green leaves can be cut down to ground level BEFORE winter.
Use greens in a wide variety of dishes.
Keep garlic bulbs in the ground all the time IF you want to keep producing garlic year after year, which I do.
Continue eating only the garlic greens or chives.
By eating only the greens and not the bulbs you’ll have many bulbs keep multiplying for years to come!
How to use garlic greens
Avoid dried ends or soggy leaves
Browning or dirty outer leaves can be stripped off, just like green onions
Trim off root ends and any tough part of the green leaves.
Chop or slice like confetti, keep in a container in the refrigerator.
Sprinkle RAW garlic chives on potatoes, salad greens, pasta salads, stir frys, veggies, soups, toast w/ butter, braised-like asparagus, etc.
For best results don’t cook garlic chives since you'll lose all the flavor and nutrients. They are the most potent when eaten fresh.
Add chives right before eating.
I cut them into little confetti pieces before eating.
Garlic chives make a beautiful garnish on chicken, fish, beef, pork, etc.
Add garlic chives to any food item you would typically add salt and pepper to.
When cutting chives or greens, leave at least 3 inches from the ground to help them continue to grow back fast.
