Story by Kendra Rowser, Sheryl's daughter
When I was about 19 years old, my family & I went on a trip to Southern Utah to go boating and exploring. This vacation was the most fun and yet most painful trip I've ever been on with my family.
I was really looking forward to the first day since we'd be doing my favorite outdoor activity. Boating. I love being on the water, water skiing and sun bathing. And of course hanging out with my family.
I wanted to get as much out of that first day as I could, which meant getting the most sun exposure as possible. Sunscreen would just get in the way of my tan. I guess even after 19 years, I haven't learned how easily my Irish white skin burns. Well, I was reminded that night. I began regretting my decision just after we finished boating for the day.
The following day, I could barely walk down the stairs outside our hotel room. I have never taken sunscreen for granted since. Luckily I was able to still enjoy my family the next few days. We had an amazing time together.
I will forever treasure every memory made on that trip.
